EL 14 History:
It soon became clear that NSB EL13 was too weak and small for the increasingly heavier trains on the main lines in Norway. Again, a Swiss construction was chosen, the Ae 6/6, the basis for EL 14. El 14 is technically identical to the Swiss locomotive, but with another body. Together with Di3, EL 14 became NSB's working horse and was responsible for all heavy train traffic in Norway. Even after 50 years in operation, many are "still goine strong". Although the locomotive has recently been a pure freight train locomotive, it has pulled many passenger trains over the years. El14 was a universal locomotive and was inserted when needed. 31 locomotives were built by Thune and NEBB from 1968 to 1973.
