NSB El 17 was constructed for the new express trains with B7 type coaches which entered service in 1982. El 17 was built by NEBB, ABB, BBC and Henschel and delivered to NSB in two series,
Series 1, 2221-2226 in 1981 and
Series 2, 2227-2232 in 1987.
The locomotive has a weight of 64 tons and develop 4090 HK with a total lenght of 16300mm and permitted speed of 150km/h. El 17 was the first asyncron locomotive in the world and is a smaller version of the DB BR120 class.
From 1996-97 El17 used in all kinds of regional and night trains and from 1998 6 El 17 were painted in green und put into service on the famous FLmline.
