At the NSB it was a need for freight wagons with bigger volume for light weight goods. NSB ordered 300 Gr5 box car at Srtømmens Værksted, Høka at Hønefoss and Eidfos Brug for delivery from 1963 to 1965. The 300 was too few for the demand, therefore NSB rented by SJ extra Gbs for use in Norway.
From 1968 the Gbs with 14020 mm o.b. got the UIC litra Gbs 150 with computer number within the international standard for box car with a lenght over bufferbeams of 12780mm. Gbs was popular for cargo with big volume and low weight, such as insulation for houses, Glava, and for the boat producer Bakelittfabrikken A/S in Aurskog which loaded their annual production of 8000 maintainance free polyethylen boats at Sørumsand station for export all over Europe.
