NMJ Skyline model of the Strømmen Station as it looked like in the 1970's.

Since the beginning and opening in 1952-53, Strømmen station has been an important railway and industrial hub. Under the construction of the first railway line between Oslo and Eidsvoll, Strømmen was the first terminus and station outside the capital. The first station was simple and small,  in 1901 the building was replaced with today’s version. In addition to an important part of the first double track railway in Norway between Oslo and Lillestrøm, a shunting yard was built with 4 tracks for the increased demand for freight transportation.  The freight traffic came mainly from the saw mills along the river Sagelva, Strømmens Trevarefabrikk and Strømmen værksted. The latter two have been particularly important in the history of the Norwegian railways, with important railway equipment, locomotives and housing of all kinds.

Also for NMJ Strømmen station plays an important part of our history. It has been the nearest station to our shop and offices since the opening over 30 years ago in Strømsveien 102. It was  where our history started and we still have a strong foundation here today. Strømmens Værksted has delivered a lot of the trains and wagons until its recent closure. We felt it was about time to honor both our and Strømmens history with a beautiful ready made model of this station.
